We took a little family road trip for a day to the cities to see the Okee Dokee Brothers sing at the library concerts. We met Katie and Kellan there and the kids had a great time! They sang a lot of songs that they knew from their CD that we have and a few we didn't know. Peter still says "they sang that one!" in the car when we are listening. The only part that was a bummer is that they didn't sing the train song- but afterwards, Pete wanted to go and say hi to them, so we waited in line and he said very quietly that his favorite was the train song- one of the guys gave him a fist bump and said MINE TOO!
After the concert, we went to Katie's house for lunch and played and then I took a big risk. I took the three kids to the Como Zoo on my own! The girls were in the stroller and we just took our time, walking slowly around the zoo and doing whatever we wanted. It was a really nice day!

Trinona-- Peter's Big Race
We went to see Trinona- kids last year and since then, Pete has been talking about it. Where the kids parked their bike, how they ran to the track and around it. We had asked the race director if he could do it before he was 5 since he was showing so much interest and he said absolutely! So, we signed him up! I knew he would have no problem finishing as long as he started.
He did a great job of lining up and getting into the water in the pool. I am pretty sure that he didn't really know though, when he should start swimming. He and the little boy he was sharing a lane with just hung out for a minute or so. It was also loud in there, I'm sure, so he looked like he was a little distracted then as well. But he ran out of the pool area, got some help getting dressed (tried to take off his wet swim suit as well!!) and was off on his bike. At the next transition he found the water stop and stood drinking and drinking before ran.
Afterwards I asked him what the best part of it was- Swimming!!

Memorial Day Camping
We usually head up to the north short to camp for the weekend with Garrick's family, but the last few years the weather has been iffy and we weren't sure about going with a 2 month old in 30 degree weather. Lucky for us, everyone- and a few extras even- agreed to come to Trempleau to camp for the weekend instead! We hiked, biked, had fires, went for walks around the campground and ate and ate of course. The kids did a great job of sleeping in the tent and Peter loved getting to pee in the woods. Linka had her big parachute hammock and we brought ours as well and that was one of the best parts for the kids- wrestling in them or lying quietly with grandma, reading books and looking at the trees. It did sprinkle on us a few times, but for the most part it was great weather and lots of fun.

Mountain Bikers
Peter has gotten so good on his pedal bike and Emelia has gotten so good on her scoot bike that we headed up to Holzinger and took the kids for the short loop up there. Peter was so fast going down the hills and we said he reminded us of a little Ewok on his space bike! Emi also had so much fun and of course- did it herself.

Pretty Little Lainey
Lainey is 2 months now already! She is smiling, cooing and is such a chill little baby. We have said again and again how well the other two have adjusted to her being here as well. They are patient with me (for the most part) while I'm changing/feeding her, find things to do together more and more and like to play and snuggle with her as well.

Mother's Day
It was a cold and windy day! We packed up lunch though and went to SMU to walk around campus and the trails and have lunch. The kids had fun riding their bikes and Peter loved running on the track. Later that day he helped me plant flowers in the owl pot he found for me and we did a bunch of yard work. Peter decided that when we turned the sprinkler on it was time to run through! He didn't last long- just a few passes but he had fun.

Last day of Leave
My leave has come to an end and I'm "back" at school working (from home of course). It is completely do-able but it makes me realize how big Lainey is getting and how fast two months can go! On my last day off we went for a long run (both lakes- Peter rode his bike) and had a picnic at the fountain park. When we were at the park, Peter saw that I had four cookies in the lunch- he thought for a minute and said- Emi and I each get two!! Or I can have 2 and you each can have 1...
I feel lucky that I was able to take almost 9 weeks off and spend so much time with Lainey-bug. Now just 17 days until summer!!
